Our Mission
Our mission is to empower adults with the knowledge and skills to effectively engage youth in navigating the digital landscape, fostering open communication and safe online practices. Through training and collaborative discussions, we aim to bridge the generational gap and equip adults to guide youth in making informed choices and recognizing online risks.
#CyberEmpowerment
I Had No Idea #CyberEmpowerment was founded in October 2024 by Jenipher Janek, LPC. The movement began when Janek recognized a generational gap in understanding online safety between adults and youth. To bridge this divide and foster collaboration, she introduced the concept of “cyber empowerment.” This initiative aims to help adults connect with young people, enhancing their understanding of online danger and enabling informed, confident decision-making in their technology use.
Many adults may not fully grasp the depth of online content their children are accessing. When confronted with information about online threats, a common response is, “I had no idea.” Raising awareness is the crucial first step in helping adults forge stronger connections with youth, equipping them to recognize online dangers before they become an issue.
Together, we can create a safer online experience for everyone.
Meet Jeni Janek
Jeni Janek is a Regional Counselor Specialist with Education Service Center Region 12 in Waco, Texas. Over the past twenty years in education, she has seen a growing need to help young people stay safe online through education, engagement with trusted adults, and their own decision-making, which is empowerment.
Always a student of new technology and evolving trends in social media use, Janek learns as much from youth as she teaches them. However, having been a counselor for fifteen years and a school crisis responder, she knows about human relationships and how integral they are to combat the threats children are facing online.
For more than a decade, Janek has been working with parents and children to raise awareness about online safety and cyber empowerment. Her goal is to prevent another child from falling victim to online danger and predatory advances.
